It's a known fact that twill, a woven fabric with diagonal parallel ridges, makes the best outerwear because of its durability while remaining soft and easy to wear. We use our custom made cotton twill to make our lightweight outerwear sets. Our soft-brushed twill is made with 98% organic cotton and is Global Organic Textile Standard Certified. Each of our twill styles was designed to fulfill a specific need in your wardrobe. Here's how your new twill Recommence style was made, with you and the environment in mind.

Design and Fabrication

Every garment starts with the design process. Once we find our inspiration for a style, our designer draws the silhouette and sends it to one of our Fair Labor Certified factories. Each of our factories specializes in a type of fabric, so this design is headed to our specialists in Organic Cotton in India. We have all of our fabrics custom made for our collections, and our factory is one of the best in fabricating luxury knits from Organic Cotton. Having fabrics custom made adds time to the design process, but ensures that our garments are organic and the fabric has the perfect feel.

About Our Organic Cotton

Organic Cotton is produced and certified to Global Organic Textile Standards . Its production sustains the health of soils, ecosystems and people by using natural processes rather than artificial inputs. Most importantly, organic cotton farming does not allow the use of toxic chemicals or GMOs. Instead it combines traditional innovation and science to benefit the shared environment and promote a good quality of life for all involved.

Growing Organic Cotton seeds is much better for the environment than farming conventional seeds because no toxic chemicals are used. It doesn’t damage the soil, has less impact on the air, and uses 71% less water and 62% less energy

Farming Organic Cotton even keeps farmers and their families safe because they are not exposed to toxic chemicals in the field or through their food and water supply

Once the cotton is carefully harvested, it's then put through a ginning process to remove the seeds and clean the bales

After the Organic Cotton is cleaned, the fibers are spun to make super soft yarn. This yarn is carefully woven to make bolts of our Organic Cotton Twill

At this point in the process, we cut and sew all of our styles in our Fair Labor factories. then garment dye them using only low impact, Global Organic Textile Standards certified dyes

Now to You

Did you know that deadstock (leftover inventory from past seasons) is a huge problem afflicting much of the fashion industry right now due to the rise in fast fashion? We don't want any Recommence garments to go to waste so we produce very limited quantities of all of our styles. Once our finished garment leaves our factory, we carefully pack it to get it ready to head to you. This includes our hang tag, which is made from recycled cement leftovers, and our biodegradable bag. Each Recommence garment gets extra love and attention during our entire process, so make sure you cherish it always and keep up the care, because clothes are meant to last longer than one eason.
